Summary:

The supplied list for Garden Grove Unified includes 62 schools: 43 elementary, 10 middle, eight high and one alternative school, with schools serving students from elementary through high school; the area summary lists 63 schools, including one additional elementary school. The clearest takeaway is that results vary sharply from school to school: elementary scores span 58 points in ELA, 59 in math and 67 in science, so districtwide averages can hide very different experiences.

Several schools stand out within their grade spans. Ethan B. Allen Elementary leads elementary schools in ELA (89%) and math (87%), while Loyal Barker Elementary leads in science (75%); the state figures are 49%, 38% and 36%, respectively. Sarah McGarvin Intermediate leads middle schools in all three subjects, with 80% ELA, 75% math and 66% science. Among regular high schools, La Quinta High leads with 83% ELA, 70% math and 60% science. At the lower end, Edward Russell Elementary has the lowest elementary ELA and math results (32% and 28%), and Woodbury Elementary the lowest science result (8%). Stephen R. Fitz Intermediate is lowest among middle schools in all three subjects; Santiago High is lowest among regular high schools. Marie L. Hare High serves grades 7–12 and has a distinct profile, so its scores should not be lumped together with regular 9–12 schools.

Middle-school averages improved from 2024–25 to 2025–26 by about 2 points in ELA, 4 in math and 3 in science; relative to state gains, middle schools gained about 1 point in ELA and 3 in math, while science was roughly level. SchoolDigger’s rankings show durable high positions for Ethan B. Allen (99th–100th percentile across three reported years) and Patton Elementary (97th percentile in each), while Newhope and Simmons fell from the 50s or 60th percentile to the 39th. Income figures are context, not an explanation: for the 2024–25 school year, free/reduced lunch eligible was 28% at Loyal Barker, 73% at McGarvin and 93% at Edward Russell, whose results differ substantially.
