Summary

Stephen R. Fitz Intermediate is a public middle school for grades 7-8 in Santa Ana, serving 534 students within the Garden Grove Unified district, and it holds a 3-star rating with academic performance that is about average compared to schools across California.

The school shows a clear strength in supporting English Language Learners, ranking in the top tier for this group, and its students perform well in English Language Arts, slightly above the state average. However, there are significant challenges in mathematics and science, where proficiency rates are the lowest among comparable middle schools in Garden Grove Unified, such as Sarah McGarvin Intermediate and Donald S. Jordan Intermediate. The school also faces a notable performance gap for students in special education programs.

When compared to schools in neighboring districts like Santa Ana Unified, Stephen R. Fitz generally performs better, for instance outperforming Gerald P. Carr Intermediate. An interesting pattern is that 7th graders at Fitz consistently outperform 8th graders in core subjects. The school's chronic absenteeism rate, while improved from previous years, remains higher than some of the district's top-performing schools, indicating an area where continued focus could support overall student achievement.

Open Quote All of the things people are telling us about this school is all fake!! Nobody and I mean nobody has ever gotten shot or stabbed, and we even get really good reviews from other administrators, or whatever they were. Saying that our school has very respectful students. And our school is the only school, as far as I know to be modernized!! And I'm pretty sure we are the only school with a drumline. All I'm saying is that if you like having fun/cool teachers then come to Fitz. : Close Quote
