Summary:

The 44 elementary schools in Garden Grove Unified all serve K–6, and their 2025–26 results show an area with average proficiency above state levels in all three subjects. The unweighted school averages were 57% in ELA, 51% in math and 40% in science, compared with state rates of 49%, 38% and 36%. More schools were above the state in math (32 of 44) than in ELA (28) or science (27). The most important finding is that results vary widely from school to school, especially in science, where the highest and lowest rates were 67 percentage points apart.

Ethan B. Allen led in ELA at 89% and math at 87%; it was about 5 points ahead of the next-highest ELA school and 3 points ahead in math. Its results were 40 points above the state in ELA and 48 points above in math. Loyal Barker led science at 75%, just ahead of Allen at 75%—a near tie—and 39 points above the state. At the low end, Edward Russell had the lowest ELA rate, 32%, 18 points below the state; Clinton was lowest in math at 27%, 11 points below the state; and Woodbury was lowest in science at 8%, 28 points below. SchoolDigger ranked Allen 43rd of 5,804 schools statewide, in the 99th percentile.

Across these schools, the average ELA gap with the state was essentially unchanged from 2024–25 to 2025–26; the math and science gaps narrowed by about 1 point each. But individual schools moved in different directions: Garden Park gained 11 points in ELA and 10 in math, while Enders fell 27 points in science and Ethel M. Evans rose 21. Context measures do not neatly sort results: in 2024–25, Peters and Brookhurst had similar free/reduced lunch eligible shares (83% and 84%), yet Peters scored 63% in ELA, 57% in math and 53% in science, compared with Brookhurst’s 54%, 45% and 31%. These figures are context for comparing schools, not evidence that the income measure explains results.
