Whitewater Middle is a grades 6–8 school with 394 students in Whitewater, a small city in southeastern Wisconsin, part of the Whitewater Unified School District. The school ranked 418th of 643 middle schools in 2025–2026 (35th percentile, 2 stars), while the district ranked 314th of 432 districts (27th percentile, 1 star). Over the past decade, Whitewater Middle has mostly stayed between the 27th and 41st percentile, with 1-star years in 2017–2018 and 2023–2024, so it has generally performed below the state median without a clear long-term upward trend.

Two strengths stand out. Chronic absenteeism was 7.5% in 2024–2025, down from 22.2% in 2021–2022 and well below Wisconsin’s 17.3% rate; nearby Marshall Middle (24.9%) and Jefferson Middle (25.7%) had much higher rates. Yet academics lag. Whitewater was below the state in every Forward Exam subject and grade except 6th grade ELA, where it was essentially at the state average (54.42% vs. 54.95%). The biggest gaps were 7th grade ELA (45.30% vs. 55.33%), 7th grade math (45.30% vs. 55.67%), 6th grade math (45.58% vs. 53.60%), and 8th grade ELA (46.34% vs. 54.38%). Compared with nearby schools, Edgerton Middle, Fort Atkinson Middle, Milton Middle, Elkhorn Area Middle, Jefferson Middle, East Troy Middle, and Marshall Middle generally scored higher, while Phoenix Middle and, in some subjects, Palmyra-Eagle Middle scored lower. The lowest subgroup rankings in 2025–2026 were for low-income students (24th percentile) and special education students (28th percentile); English language learner students ranked 47th, down from 61st the prior year.
