Whitewater High is the only comprehensive high school in the Whitewater Unified School District, serving 606 students in grades 9–12 in a small college town (home to UW-Whitewater) roughly midway between Madison and Milwaukee. It currently ranks 352nd of 533 ranked Wisconsin high schools (34th percentile, 2 stars), and about 43% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Per-pupil spending reached $17,728 in 2024–25 — more than Elkhorn Area High, Craig High, Edgerton High, Milton High, Jefferson High and Fort Atkinson High.

Where the school shines is engagement. Graduation is 97.6% and dropout 0.3%, the second-highest graduation rate among nearby high schools and well above the state's 92.0%. Social studies is comparatively strongest. Low-income students (24th percentile) and, most recently, female students (26th percentile) are the groups furthest behind. Bottom line: this is a high-need, well-resourced school whose attendance and graduation gains are real; the next step is turning that into classroom-level academic growth.
