North High is a 9–12 comprehensive high school in Eau Claire, WI, serving 1,567 students as part of the Eau Claire Area School District. In 2025–2026, North ranked 194 of 533 Wisconsin high schools, placing it in the 64th percentile with 3 stars—above its district’s 48th-percentile average but below Memorial High, the district’s other large comprehensive high school, which is in the 91st percentile with 5 stars. North has improved over time, from the 25th percentile in 2017–2018. It also serves a higher-poverty population: 41.16% of students receive free/reduced lunch, compared with 28.43% at Memorial High, 18.15% at Fall Creek High, 27.01% at Elk Mound High, and 29.22% at Altoona High.

On 2025–2026 10th-grade tests, North was above the state in English language arts, math, and science but below the state in social studies, and below the district in all four subjects. Math proficiency rose from 32.62% in 2022–2023 to 50.16%, and science rose from 30.28% to 50.49%. Graduation and dropout results are clear strengths: North’s 92.6% graduation rate and 0.8% dropout rate in 2024–2025 were better than district and state averages, and have been for five years. The biggest challenge is chronic absenteeism, at 27.2% in 2024–2025—well above the district’s 16.4% and the state’s 17.3%. It is higher than most nearby schools, including Fall Creek High (10.4%), Altoona High (11.1%), Bloomer High (16.8%), Colfax High (17.1%), Memorial High (24.4%), and Chippewa Falls High (24.8%); only Anthony Acres School and McKinley Charter School were higher.

North’s recent subgroup results show promise: English language learners ranked in the 83rd percentile, special education ranked in the 80th percentile (up from the 24th percentile in 2023–2024), and low-income students ranked in the 63rd percentile. The school spent $14,129 per student in 2024–2025, below many nearby districts, and had a student-teacher ratio of 16.8, larger than most surrounding schools—yet it still produced above-state outcomes in most tested subjects and strong graduation/dropout results. This school is riddled with drugs, bad teachers, unfair treatment towards specific students and an unwillingness from counselors to provide testing for special needs. They would prefer to send your child to McKinley. Certain children are harassed daily by the resource officer and they lock multiple bathrooms and mark your child as skipping as opposed to tardy when they use the restrooms they can find. Poorly ran, unfair treatment and discouraging to the students and their parents. Close Quote
