Summary

Vista Elementary School is a public K-5 school serving 409 students in the Kennewick School District, and it stands out for achieving strong academic results while serving a community with significant economic need.

The school is on a clear upward path, improving its statewide ranking over the last eight years to earn a 3-star rating. Its biggest strengths are in math and science, where student proficiency rates are notably higher than both the district and state averages. For example, Vista's math scores are better than nearby schools like Fuerza Elementary and Edison Elementary, which have similar levels of student need. This success is supported by a favorable student-teacher ratio and higher per-student spending compared to many other schools in the area.

While Vista excels overall, its effectiveness varies among different student groups, and there is a notable performance gap between boys and girls that the school will need to address. Compared to schools in neighboring districts, such as Three Rivers Elementary in the Pasco School District, Vista performs significantly better academically. The school's consistent improvement and particular excellence in science make it a compelling choice for families in the Kennewick area.

Open Quote Compared to my son's school in California, Vista is a wonderful school. Is it the best in Kennewick? No. Is it a top rated school? No. However, Vista has caring teachers, smaller class sizes than CA and my son is happier here than he ever was at his old school. Overall, I give Vista 4 stars. Close Quote
