Summary:

Richland School District serves about 14,095 students across 20 schools in the Richland, Washington area, from elementary through high school, along with home-link and online alternative programs. Overall, the district ranks 78th of 238 Washington districts, placing it in the 67th percentile. The strongest concentration of schools is at the elementary level, where several campuses outperform district and state averages in English language arts (ELA), math, and science.

Orchard Elementary and Desert Sky Elementary are the leading all-around elementary schools. Orchard is consistently strong, with about 70% proficiency in all three subjects, while Desert Sky has the district’s best science result at 79.76% and has steadily improved its ranking. William Wiley Elementary, White Bluffs Elementary, and Lewis & Clark Elementary also stand out. Among middle schools, Leona Libby Middle School is a clear leader, ranking in the top 15% statewide, while Carmichael Middle School and Chief Joseph Middle School have notably weaker results.

Richland High School and Hanford High School offer the district’s strongest traditional high-school outcomes, with graduation rates above 91% and low dropout rates. Their ELA and science results are strong, although math is a major area for improvement. Alternative programs vary widely: Three Rivers Home Link has excellent science results, while Pacific Crest Online Academy reports much lower proficiency, especially in math. Rivers Edge High School also has a substantially lower graduation rate. Parents comparing schools should consider program format, student needs, and suppressed results, especially at smaller schools, rather than relying on rankings alone.
