Summary

Badger Mountain Elementary is a public K-5 school serving about 605 students in the Richland School District, and it has shown steady, impressive improvement in recent years, now earning a 4-star rating.

Academically, the school consistently outperforms both district and state averages, with science being a particular strength. What truly sets Badger Mountain apart is its effective support for all students; it achieves high rankings for English Language Learners and students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, demonstrating a strong commitment to every child's success. This is notable when compared to some neighboring schools like Marcus Whitman Elementary or Sunset View Elementary School, which have similar or higher poverty rates but lower overall performance. The school also operates very efficiently, achieving these solid results with lower per-student spending than many nearby schools.

While the very close Orchard Elementary ranks higher, Badger Mountain's trajectory is one of stable, consistent growth, unlike some area schools that see significant year-to-year swings. It's also interesting to see that schools in lower-ranked districts, such as Ruth Livingston Elementary in the Pasco School District, can outperform, showing that a school's own programs and culture are crucial. For parents, Badger Mountain represents a reliably improving school that delivers strong value and effectively nurtures a diverse student body.

Open Quote Communication is very poor, especially with divorced parents. Discipline is enacted randomly, and is skewed more towards the children who do not come from a "traditional" family, with two parents in the home. Leadership talks down to people, both parents and students. Gaslighting is not uncommon. Close Quote
