Open Quote Hillcrest High has undergone somewhat of a shift in demographics in the past 30 years. Today (2017) about 1 in 4 students come from a Latino background. The majority of the population comes from a working class/lower middle class background. This makes the students, in my opinion, more likely to work and think about what is necessary to make a living and develop their talents and abilities. They are problem solvers, They are friendly. They do their best. The recent renovations have also boosted their science and technology resources. I love to substitute teach there, and not just because it is my alma mater. The only thing that the school could improve on, and it must be due to budget cuts, is to bring back the creative writing magazine so more students have a creative outlet. They have very creative people in drama, choir, band, etc. and put on an amazing production of "Mary Poppins" in November 2016, by the way. The teachers and administration are as dedicated as they ever were. Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio
Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
