Summary

Catlettsburg Elementary School serves 646 students in grades PK-6 in Sevierville, Tennessee, as part of Sevier County Schools. While the district overall ranks in the 34th percentile statewide, Catlettsburg is a clear standout, placing in the 70th percentile of Tennessee elementary schools with a 3-star rating in the most recent data. The school has climbed steadily from a 27th-percentile ranking a decade ago and now exceeds both its district and the state in every tested subject. English Language Arts proficiency (50%) is especially remarkable — about 14 points above the district and 9 points above the state — and Science (54.8%) and Social Studies (55.3%) are similarly strong.

Catlettsburg also serves students well who often underperform elsewhere. English Language Learners rank in the 81st percentile statewide, and students from low-income families have jumped from the 15th percentile just two years ago to the 75th percentile today — a 60-point swing. Chronic absenteeism is low at 16.6%, compared with 23.2% across the district and 18.3% statewide. The school accomplishes this while spending roughly $14,500 per student, less than nearby Pigeon Forge Primary School and New Center Elementary School, both of which it generally outperforms academically.

Among nearby schools, only Catons Chapel Elementary School and Boyds Creek Elementary School rank above Catlettsburg. Catons Chapel's standout scores come with a much smaller enrollment of 290 students and about $20,000 per-student spending — 38% more than Catlettsburg. Boyds Creek edges out Catlettsburg in math and social studies but serves 166 fewer students at a higher per-pupil cost. The main areas to watch are 5th-grade math, where proficiency falls to 40.5% against a 47.4% state average, and a gradual fade in the school's early ELA advantage by 6th grade, though Catlettsburg remains above state averages in every grade. Overall, this is one of the most effective and efficient schools in Sevier County Schools, delivering strong results at a moderate cost.

Open Quote This school has sent my child home on the school bus to an empty house twice. My daughter is 5 years old. The school has very clear instructions to send her on the bus to a local after school program, unless we send instructions stating otherwise. The 1st time we thought it may have been an honest mistake, however, it has happened twice in less that 1 month. This is absolutely unacceptable. We will be pulling our child from this pathetic excuse for a school immediately. They have proven themselves untrustworthy with the safety of my child. Close Quote
