Summary

New Center Elementary School is a PK–6 school in Sevierville, TN, serving 616 students within the Sevier County Schools district. The school ranks in the 51st percentile statewide (503rd of 1,019 Tennessee elementary schools) and holds a 3-star rating — solidly mid-tier, and notably stronger than its district, which ranks in the bottom third of Tennessee districts. New Center outperforms Sevier County averages in math (43.7% vs. 41.6% proficient), ELA (42.3% vs. 36.1%), and science (44.3% vs. 43.2%). That said, it is not the standout among nearby same-grade schools: Catons Chapel Elementary ranks in the 92nd percentile with dramatically higher proficiency in every subject.

One of New Center's biggest assets is attendance. Chronic absenteeism dropped from 22.8% to 13.4% in a single year — far better than the district's 23.2% and the state's 18.3%, and better than several nearby schools including Catons Chapel Elementary (19.0%), Pittman Center Elementary (17.8%), and Jones Cove Elementary (25.0%). The school also earns strong results for students who often struggle statewide: special education students rank in the 75th percentile, low-income students in the 69th percentile, and male students in the 74th percentile. The school has climbed significantly over the past decade, from the 13th percentile in 2016–2017 to its current standing.

However, performance is uneven. Third-grade math proficiency sits at just 30.5%, well below the state's 42.6%, even though 3rd-grade ELA is a clear strength (51.2% vs. 44.9% statewide). By 6th grade, scores slip across the board, and social studies is a glaring weak spot at 32.0% vs. 51.4% statewide. There is also a consistent gender gap: male students rank near the 74th percentile while female students sit around the 46th. Overall, New Center is an improving, mid-tier school with strong attendance and effective support for high-need students, but closing its upper-grade and subject-area gaps will be key to competing with the region's top elementary schools.
