Summary

Sandy High School is a public high school located in Sandy, Oregon, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 1,434 students. It is part of the Oregon Trail School District 46, which is ranked 11th out of 140 districts in Oregon and has a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Sandy High School is part of a high-performing district, the school itself has faced some challenges in recent years. Its statewide ranking has declined, dropping from 37th out of 292 Oregon high schools in 2014-2015 to 180th out of 270 in 2024-2025, with a 2-star rating. This decline is concerning and suggests the school may be underperforming compared to its peers. The school's performance also varies across different student subgroups, with Hispanic students and Gifted and Talented students performing relatively better, while White students and Multi-racial students have been consistently underperforming.

Additionally, Sandy High School has experienced high rates of chronic absenteeism, ranging from 34.3% to 43.6% in recent years, which is significantly higher than the state average. The school's academic performance, as measured by proficiency rates in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science, is also generally below the state and district averages. Nearby schools, such as Centennial High School, Clackamas High School, and Gresham High School, have also faced similar challenges, suggesting a broader regional trend. However, Adrienne C. Nelson High School, which is also in the North Clackamas School District, has performed significantly better than Sandy High School in recent years.

Open Quote I was a student of sandy high school for two years. I moved away to Barlow High school this last year, where I realized just how mediocre of a school sandy is. It is dirty, the teachers don't care enough about their students for them to actually learn in the classroom setting, and the administration is so disorganized and unrealistic that when entering into the school, you literally feel like you are walking into a make-shift prison. But the worst thing about the teachers and administrators at sandy is that if they do not want to talk to you about your problems, they will refer you around to other teachers just to get you out of their hair. I always felt like I was the hockey puck at the NHL if I had a problem concerning the administration.
I was even held back in math a year because my consoler told me the class I should have been in were full. I was forced to take an independent study to catch up. To get a clearer picture though, walk through the school's halls: it's great practice for a teenager getting ready for their license test; stop and go, stop and go, wait to turn left. It's a very frustrating experience to have to go to that school, and so I would NOT recommend this school to anyone, unless I was planning some sort of sick revenge. Close Quote
