Summary

Reynolds High School is a 9–12 comprehensive high school in Troutdale, Oregon, serving 2,385 students as the flagship campus of Reynolds School District 7 — the biggest high school in its immediate area and roughly 1.4 times the size of the other Gresham-area comprehensives.

Its context is challenging on both counts. The district ranks 131st of 141 Oregon districts, and Reynolds High School ranks 231st of 271 Oregon high schools (15th percentile, 1 star). That standing has been flat rather than falling — pinned in a 14th–19th percentile band since 2021-2022. The most useful comparison is Gresham High School, two miles away: the two are nearly identical in math (8.7% vs. 8.6%), science (15.0% vs. 15.0%) and chronic absenteeism (57.2% vs. 58.6%), but Reynolds has higher ELA (33.9% vs. 27.9%) and graduation (79.3% vs. 77.0%) with a better student-teacher ratio (20.0 vs. 23.4). ELA is the relative bright spot, beating the district by 10.2 points. Math is the sharpest weakness at 8.7% — below the state and, unusually, below the school's own district average. Real progress shows in persistence: graduation rose from 62.4% to 79.3% since 2020-2021, and chronic absenteeism fell from 75.6% to 57.2% while the state's rate worsened — though more than half the student body is still chronically absent. Test scores have barely moved. How well the school serves particular groups varies: special education, low-income, Hispanic and Asian students rank in the bottom decile, and gifted students sit at the 27th percentile, while Pacific Islander students hold at the 50th percentile with 4 stars, though that group is small. They are doing nothing to help my mentally disabled child achieve her goals. She skips classes everyday and after being denied an IEP, twice, even though her Psychiatrist, Therapist, and Skills Trainer say she needs an IEP, her grades continue to go down. She is also bullied on a daily basis and the school does nothing about that either. Close Quote
