Summary

Abbotts Creek Elementary is a PK–5 public school in north Raleigh serving 805 students as part of Wake County Schools. It ranks 197th out of 1,492 North Carolina elementary schools (87th percentile), placing it in the top 13% of schools statewide and making it the highest-ranked traditional Wake County public elementary in its immediate area. The school also shows a strong improvement trajectory: after sitting near the 65th percentile a decade ago, it climbed into the 90th–94th percentile range from 2020–21 through 2023–24, and while the last two years have eased slightly, it remains well above most nearby schools.

Academically, Abbotts Creek posts strong End-of-Grade results in every tested subject. Math is a particular standout: 80.5% of grades 3–5 students are proficient, compared with 71.7% for the district and 63.6% statewide. Reading proficiency is 71.9%, versus 66.5% for the district and 56.2% for the state. The closest traditional-school competitor, North Ridge Elementary, ranks just behind at 205th, but Abbotts Creek holds a clear edge in upper-elementary math — 81.7% 5th-grade math proficiency versus North Ridge's 71.8%. The only nearby school that outperforms it is Endeavor Charter School, ranked 12th in the state. The contrast with Durant Road Elementary, located just 0.22 miles away, is particularly striking: Abbotts Creek's 5th-grade math proficiency (81.7%) far exceeds Durant Road's 58.7%, and its 4th-grade reading proficiency (77.6%) nearly doubles Durant Road's 44.3%.

Attendance and schoolwide effectiveness further set Abbotts Creek apart. Its chronic absenteeism rate has remained under 13% every year since 2021–22, while district rates have hovered near 20% and state rates reached as high as 31%. Subgroup effectiveness is strong across many student populations, including African American students (84th percentile) and Special Education students (82nd percentile). The school achieves these results with class sizes similar to or slightly larger than neighboring schools. One area worth watching is a recent dip in Hispanic-student subgroup effectiveness, which fell from the 92nd percentile in 2023–24 to the 44th percentile in 2025–26. Third-grade reading, while strong, also shows a narrower gap relative to the district than other subjects.
