As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I’d like to see more consistently throughout the curriculum. Handwriting and spelling have gone out the window. Kids in enrichment aren’t learning much spanish but the basics year after year... colors, numbers... they don’t progress. The teachers who stay are great but there is a lot of turnover which is hard on the kids especially mid year. There is great parent involvement and staff are friendly. All pluses. I give Casa only 2 stars because I see a lot of area that need improvement. We stay at Casa with the hope it will change for the better especially with a new head of school. In the meantime there is a lot of support at home and reteaching some basic skills. Close Quote

Open Quote I have been working at Casa since 2013. We have had our ups and downs, but I strongly believe in the school. I love teaching here, we have a good salary, great benefits a new amazing principal and an awesome PFA. I know we are heading a great way under our new administration. Close Quote

Open Quote We have been at Casa for five years, and all three of our children currently attend. We have had an amazing experience in the immersion program. Our children love their teachers and have learned so much. My husband and I do not speak Spanish, so it is a joy to see how far our children's language skills have come in their time at Casa. We are often told by naive speakers that their Spanish is excellent! We are also thrilled to see how our older daughters' study skills have developed as a result of the Montessori component of Casa's program. Now in third and fourth grade, they have learned independently to follow their work plan at school and very rarely need to be reminded to do their homework. We couldn't be happier with their education at Casa, and we love the warm environment the teachers, staff, and parents have created. I can't imagine our kids anywhere else. Close Quote

Open Quote I just want you all to read the dates of the reviews when you are considering the school. They encourage parents to put up reviews all at one time to skew the actual reviews. There are happy people and unhappy people and potential parents should be able to make an informed decision. The curriculum is not good and no one is on one accord. There isn't a standard reading and writing curriculum so if new teachers come in they have no clue what to do. The scores are evident in that. The school has been on an academic decline since 2014 and it hasn't went back up.They are not keeping up with WCPSS pay for teachers so any teachers. The class sizes are horrible. There are at least 29-31 students in each classroom. NC has passed laws about classroom sizes. In k youre only suppose to have 18 kids, in 1st 16, and so on. Smaller class sizes improve a child's education and that's not happening at Casa. Close Quote

Open Quote This is a truly wonderful school. There is a new head of school this year and she is an absolute blessing. She and the staff give 110 towards the kids daily. The parents and community are committed as well to giving to the staff and students making sure teachers are treated and reminded their appreciated so their focus is always on the students. This school is a wonderful community that works hard with one intention the Whole child. It’s is very much about education but equally about raising a balanced human who can function in society with confidence, respect, ability to advocate, individuality and appreciation of likes, differences and all the world has to offer. I feel very confident in my daughters teachers and love the open communication with her as well as the head of school. I am very pleased with the school, the staff, the parents. All the way around it is a wonderful community and I feel good about the environment my child is learning and developing in. I did a lot of research and questioned schools, teachers, childhood professionals, parents etc before making the choice. Casa Esperanza has held to everything they promised to be and what others had guided me towards and said Casa was. Close Quote

Open Quote Thrilled to be part of the Casa Esperanza community. Teachers and leadership are incredibly dedicated and child-centric. Felt the Montessori difference from day 1 with my kindergartener walking all the way to his class on his own. The Spanish-immersion program equips students with key language skills and the cultural awareness to be more interactive and engaged in the global community. Casa made sense from the beginning, and the school continues to exceed our high expectations. Close Quote

Open Quote We enjoy Casa and the community brings value to our family. This is our third year at the school. Our student started in kindergarten and had had WONDERFUL, LOVING teachers. Kind other schools, there had been turnover but we have landed an amazing new Head of School this year. By far, there had been huge positive changes and we are grateful that the children are out first. Our son attended 8th grade only last year. He entered as a before average student, graduated as an average student and had transoms to honors classes in a public high school. Casa middle grades helped him with excell in in his studies and boosted his confidence with getting assistance. We love Casa Montessori Charter School. Close Quote

Open Quote My Kindergartener has had a great start to her school career at Casa Esperanza. The teachers, faculty, and administrators are all so welcoming, loving, and genuinely caring. While kindergarten is a hard transition for kids and families, I know she is going to a place to cares for her as an individual and that is full of love, and where the diversity of the community is embraced. Open Quote There has been recent departure of key employees responsible for the schools earlier success. Turnover of staff has been an ongoing problem at this school. It will be difficult to fill the staff vacancies with employees of the same quality as those who have left. Current head of school has only a weak background in Montessori methods. The leadership of the school will have a very difficult time to maintain the dual language and Montessori charter without a strong staff. Close Quote

Wednesday, April 29, 2015

Open Quote Horrible school board, finance director, and human resources coordinator who all have personal and unethical motivations. Money is funneled to business office employees instead of to much needed educational services. Teacher turnover rate is extremely high. Going downhill fast and will probably close in the next few years because of financial mishandlings, though the board and finance director do a "good" job of hiding the true financials of the school and moving funds around to cover the reality of the dire straights they are in. Weak leadership, with a new HOS coming in soon. Not much left of the school that is Montessori. It is becoming just a dual language school very quickly (motive of HR person). Middle school program is very weak and shaky. No continuity. Close Quote

Open Quote This school now has only 2 certified Montessori teachers. The teacher Ms Stanford credited for being so wonderful in a previous positive review was let go this year. I agree she was wonderful! Over 50% teacher turnover in the last two years. Something is terribly wrong here. Most new teachers are not even NC certified. A weak HOS and lousy board have destroyed this once great school. Close Quote

Wednesday, May 28, 2014

Open Quote Casa Esperanza used to be a great school. High teacher turnover and an angry board which lacks transparency to the parents has caused this school to lose how wonderful it once was. Charter schools thanks to a new law in August 2013 are now only required to have 50% certified teachers down from the previous requirement of 75%. Looking at the long long list of wonderful teachers who have left this school, makes me sad to see how an angry controlling board can destroy a once wonderful school.

A long time parent of 8 years now leaving with my children to return to public schools. Close Quote

Open Quote I am very grateful to Casa. My daughter has found a safe, challenging school environment. This year her 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Stanford, was incredible--kind, well versed in the Montessori method. This school may not have fancy digs but it has a great heart and plenty of substance. Open Quote I have been a parent of 2 now 3 Casa students. Overall, I have been very pleased with the school. The small school setting sets the stage for a family environment, lots of parent involvement but also very professional staff. Every teacher we have encountered has cared that my children performs to their best ability. The school has often been a school of distinction. A bonus, students wear uniforms, logos and designer wear is shunned. Healthy lunches and snacks a must Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
