Summary

North Ridge Elementary is a PK–5 school in Raleigh, NC, serving 730 students within the Wake County Schools district. This school is a standout performer, ranking #205 out of 1,492 North Carolina elementary schools and earning a 4-star rating in the 86th percentile. It has improved dramatically in just a few years, climbing from the 54th percentile in 2022–2023. Academically, North Ridge beats the district average in nearly every tested grade and subject, with especially strong 3rd-grade reading scores: 79.4% proficient versus 65.4% for the district. The school also posts a low chronic absenteeism rate of 12.3%, compared to 20.5% districtwide and 24.2% statewide.

Compared to its neighbors, North Ridge Elementary is part of a high-performing pocket with Abbotts Creek Elementary, which is just a few miles away. Many other nearby schools such as Lynn Road Elementary, Durant Road Elementary, and Millbrook Elementary rank considerably lower. For example, North Ridge sits at the 86th percentile while Millbrook sits at the 18th. North Ridge also stands out for serving special education students exceptionally well—this subgroup ranks in the 92nd percentile statewide—and for doing so even with a higher student-teacher ratio and slightly lower spending than many nearby schools.

However, some student groups still face challenges. Economically disadvantaged students and English language learners have lower proficiency rates, ranking in the 44th and 26th percentiles respectively. That said, the school shows momentum: low-income students have improved from the 29th to 44th percentile over two years, and the school has narrowed gaps in 5th-grade math and science, which previously trailed district averages. Overall, North Ridge is a rapidly rising, high-achieving school that offers strong academics and attendance, with room to grow in making sure every student benefits equally.

Open Quote We have two kids at North Ridge Elementary and we LOVE this school for so many reasons. The faculty and staff are so committed to giving the kids everything they have. From excellent teaching, to teachers showing up at soccer games and birthday parties (even swim meets over the summer!), we have been so impressed. North Ridge had something like a 9% increase in test scores last year! Even more telling is that every single group of students improved, more kids than ever moved into the academically gifted group and the kids who were there already improved their scores too!. We're so lucky to have a full-time AG teacher and so many resources for the kids at every grade level. Our principal and assistant principal are amazing and so hard-working and I've never seen such an active PTA. During difficult economic times, having a PTA that is a constant presence and able to fill in the budget gaps makes a huge difference. Not to mention making North Ridge a truly warm and fun school for our kids. My kids come home happy every day and that's what I hear from all the other parents too.

We love North Ridge and would recommend it to anyone. Close Quote
