Thomasville Middle is a public middle school in Thomasville, NC, serving grades 6–8 with approximately 500 students in the Thomasville City Schools district. Nearly all students (99.4%) qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and one in three (33.8%) is chronically absent — roughly 10 points above the state average. The school has the highest student-to-teacher ratio (20:1) among nearby middle schools, despite spending $11,713 per student, near the top of the local comparison group.

Thomasville Middle trails state averages by 20–25 percentage points in most subjects and ranks at the 15th percentile statewide. Allen Jay Middle (98.7% low-income) averages 48.8% in math and 52.4% in reading, and E Lawson Brown Middle (98.4% low-income) averages 54.0% and 52.5%. Both schools also have far lower chronic absenteeism than Thomasville. By contrast, the area's highest-achieving middle schools — such as Ledford Middle — serve far fewer low-income families.

Encouragingly, 2025-26 brought broad gains. Eighth grade science proficiency jumped from 28% to 54.2%, nearing the state average, and math and reading improved across several grade levels. English Language Learner, Special Education, and low-income subgroups rose sharply in statewide rankings, and the school's overall percentile improved from 9th to 15th — its best showing in years. Still, 8th grade math dipped slightly and gifted students rank at the 6th percentile, a reminder that progress is uneven. The trajectory is promising, but sustaining it will require real work on attendance, class sizes, and support for students at every level.
