Summary

Madison Station Elementary is a K-5 school in Madison, MS, serving 980 students and part of the highly-ranked Madison County Schools district. The school is an academic powerhouse, holding a 5-star rating for over a decade and ranking #6 in Mississippi for 2025-2026. It has a notably low chronic absenteeism rate of 5.2%, far better than the district (20.4%) and state (23.9%) averages. The student-teacher ratio is a comfortable 15.3:1, and about 14% of students qualify for free/reduced lunch, reflecting a relatively low-poverty population compared to many surrounding areas.

Academically, Madison Station far exceeds both district and state proficiency averages. For example, 4th-grade math proficiency is 87.3%, compared to 64.5% for the district and just 51.5% statewide. Its closest peers, such as Mannsdale Upper Elementary and Madison Avenue Upper, are also top-rated, though Madison Station generally leads in 5th-grade subjects. The contrast with other nearby schools in the same district is stark: Highland Elementary and Madison Crossing Elementary trail by 20 to 30 percentage points in core subjects like 3rd-grade ELA and 5th-grade math. Schools just a few miles away in Jackson Public Schools, such as Revive Collegiate and McLeod Elementary School, show dramatically lower proficiency rates, highlighting how outcomes can vary sharply within a short drive.

While Madison Station saw modest single-year dips in some 2025-2026 scores compared to the previous year, 5th-grade math and science actually improved, and the school remains firmly in the top tier of Mississippi elementary schools. Its consistent excellence over the past decade is a testament to strong attendance, a supportive community, and effective instruction. For parents seeking an elementary school in central Mississippi, Madison Station stands out as a benchmark of academic achievement and stability.

Open Quote Very traditional school. Curriculum is not flexible to meet the needs of the student, so children with learning disabilities have difficulty. Very large school, so my child's needs got lost in the shuffle. If I had the money I would send my kids to St. Andrews. Close Quote
