Summary

Madison Central High School is a public high school in Madison, MS, serving 1,260 students in grades 10–12 as part of Madison County Schools, one of Mississippi's highest-rated districts. The school currently ranks #4 out of 224 Mississippi high schools (98th percentile, 5 stars) and boasts a 94.0% graduation rate—above the district (91.3%) and state (89.2%) averages. With a student-teacher ratio of 13.1 and a free/reduced lunch rate of 22.14%, it serves a relatively affluent community compared to many neighboring schools.

Academically, Madison Central High School shines in the humanities: 76.2% of students are proficient in English II and 89.3% in U.S. History, far exceeding state averages. However, its STEM results tell a very different story. Just 44.6% of students are proficient in Algebra I and only 23.2% in Biology—both well below state averages. Nearby Germantown High School, which ranks 48th, actually outperforms Madison Central in both subjects (77.5% and 71.7%, respectively). This paradox may stem partly from Madison Central's grade configuration: since it only serves grades 10–12, students taking Algebra I and Biology exams there are often doing so later than typical 9th graders.

The most urgent concern is chronic absenteeism. At 42.3%, Madison Central's rate is double the state average and higher than even several high-poverty schools in Jackson, including Murrah High School (36.6%) and Lanier Junior/Senior High School (31.1%). This is surprising given the school's strong graduation rate and affluent student body. While Madison Central has improved dramatically since ranking 114th in 2015–2016, sustaining its elite status will depend on addressing chronic absenteeism and the notable gaps in math and science proficiency.

Open Quote Good facility, it's a very nice building, however the problem lies with the staff. Most teachers can't do their job correctly, so students have to go home completeley clueless on what they were "taught", or teachers can be overly emotional and let their personal lives interfere with teaching. It's not only the teachers either principles and office staff are also in the wrong with how they address the schools policies, and etc.. Lastly the seinor bais is very noticable and immense, leaving the sophmores and juniors uncared for. Close Quote
