Summary

Yates Elementary School is a Fayette County public school in Lexington serving 438 students in PK–5. Its latest SchoolDigger ranking is 604th of 684 Kentucky schools, at the 12th percentile and one star. The main concern is that Yates scored below the state and district in every subject with a reported school result in 2025–2026.

Mathematics is Yates’s strongest area relative to state and district results, but it still trails both: its average across grades 3–5 was 30%, compared with 43% statewide and 50% in the district. Reading averaged 34%, versus 50% statewide and 55% in the district. The largest grade-5 gaps were in writing (13% at Yates, 35% statewide, 39% districtwide) and editing and mechanics (22%, 48%, and 52%). Social studies was also weak compared with nearby schools: Yates scored 17%, versus a nearby-school average of 37%. Results vary by grade: grade-3 reading was close to nearby schools at 44%, compared with their 47% average, while grade-4 math was the lowest reported among nearby schools, at 22%.

Recent results are mixed: grade-3 math rose from 20% in 2024–2025 to 35% in 2025–2026, and grade-3 reading increased from 35% in 2022–2023 to 44%; meanwhile, grade-4 math fell from 33% to 22%, and grade-5 writing declined from 33% to 13%. Chronic absenteeism was 28% in 2025–2026, above the district’s 25% and the state’s 24%, though it had improved from 34% the year before.

the teachers seem pretty nice but the school facilitor I do not like she is very rude and inconsiderate, and having a son with severe autism means I unfortunatly have to deal with her alot. With my personal experince during every IEP(so far) any questions or concerns you may have seem to annoy her like you are wasting her precious time. If you have a special needs child I would try to find another school just to avoid her, she also works for another Fayette county school as well unsure which one though. Close Quote
