ZIP code 40502 has eight schools: five elementary schools, one middle school, and two secondary schools, serving students from elementary grades through high school in Fayette County. The elementary-school group averages above matched state results in all six tested subjects, by 6 to 13 percentage points, but those averages hide substantial differences between schools. The most important finding is that Julius Marks Elementary School is below the state in every tested subject, while several other local schools are well above it.

Cassidy Elementary School leads the elementary schools in average math (71%), reading (76%), writing (73%) and editing/mechanics (81%); its math and reading averages are 28 and 26 points above the state. Ashland Elementary School stands out in science and social studies, with 64% in fourth-grade science and 76% in fifth-grade social studies, compared with state results of 40% and 38%. At the other end, Julius Marks has the lowest average in all six elementary subjects, including 21% in fifth-grade social studies versus 38% statewide. Among secondary schools, Henry Clay High School and Morton Middle School exceed state results in every reported subject. SchoolDigger ranks Cassidy 14th of 684 Kentucky elementary schools, at the 98th percentile.

Recent changes are mixed: elementary results as a group were essentially flat compared with the state, while Ashland’s average across comparable results rose about 3 points and Breckinridge’s fell about 2. Individual changes can be larger: Breckinridge Elementary gained 18 points in third-grade reading but fell 19 points in fifth-grade writing. Morton’s comparable scores declined by an average of about 4 points, though they remain above state results; SchoolDigger’s ranking moved from the 91st to the 80th percentile. Low-income measures are context, not an explanation: all five elementary schools report free/reduced lunch eligible for 2024–2025, from 32% at Cassidy to 81% at Breckinridge. Glendover Elementary School also improved in SchoolDigger’s rankings, from the 79th to the 91st percentile between 2023–2024 and 2025–2026. Homebound Secondary, with six students enrolled, has no test scores in the supplied data.
