Lakin High is a public high school serving 212 students in grades 9–12 in Lakin, a small community in western Kansas. Its latest reported graduation rate is a serious concern: 44% in 2023–24, down from 100% in 2021–22 and 84% in 2022–23. That rate was about 46 percentage points below Kansas’s 90%, matched the Lakin district, and was below nearby Holcomb High at 96%—making graduation the most urgent issue in the reported results.

On 2025–26 tests, Lakin was below the state and district in English, math, and science, but its local standing varied by subject. Its ranking for White students fell to the 46th percentile from the 73rd the previous year. Lakin’s student–teacher ratio was 12.1, higher than Holcomb’s 10 and Deerfield’s 7.8; its free/reduced-lunch rate was 58%, between Holcomb’s 54% and Deerfield’s 68%.
