The Holcomb area has five schools serving elementary through high school, including a virtual academy, with 907 students enrolled. In 2025–26, the tested schools’ average proficiency was about 31% in ELA, 27% in math and 24% in science, compared with state results of 46%, 41% and 38%. The clearest concern beyond test scores is the sharp difference in chronic absenteeism: it is 54% at Holcomb High and 32% at Holcomb Middle, but about 5% at each elementary school. Overall, results vary considerably by school, and most reported subject results are below state levels.

Results have generally moved farther from state levels over the two years of comparable scores. The three schools with ELA results in both years averaged 35% in 2024–25 and 31% in 2025–26, while the state rose from 44% to 46%; in math, the school average fell from 31% to 27% as the state rose from 39% to 41%. Science also declined among the two schools with results in both years, from an average of 37% to 25%, while the state fell from 41% to 38%. Attendance is a notable contrast: Holcomb Elementary 3–5 and Wiley Elementary report chronic absenteeism of 5%, compared with 18% statewide. At the high school, the 96% graduation rate is above the 90% state rate despite very high absenteeism. The Virtual Academy reports 0% chronic absenteeism but a 60% dropout rate; its enrollment is just 10, so those figures warrant caution.
