The Wichita area includes 81 schools: 54 elementary, 14 middle, 11 high and 2 alternative schools, serving students across elementary through high-school grades. The strongest results are concentrated in some schools, while others in the same broad grade bands score much lower; the most important takeaway is that a citywide picture can hide major differences between individual schools.

Bostic Traditional Magnet Elementary led elementary schools in ELA, math and science, with 81%, 72% and 67% proficiency—35, 31 and 29 percentage points above state rates. The lowest elementary results were 15% ELA at Linwood Elementary, 7% math at Colvin Elementary and 6% science at Mueller Aerospace/Engineering Discovery Magnet, creating school-level spreads of 66, 65 and 62 percentage points. Robinson Middle School led middle schools in ELA and math (48% and 40%), while Allison Traditional Magnet Middle led in science (46%). At regular high schools, Northwest High led in ELA and math (43% and 36%), and Northeast Magnet High School led in science (33%). At the lower end, Hamilton Middle School had 15% ELA, Truesdell Middle School had 6% math, and West High had 13% ELA.

Across eight regular high schools with results in both years, average proficiency rose from 28% to 29% in ELA and from 17% to 19% in math, but the group’s gaps from state averages widened slightly. Individual trends differed: Northwest High improved 5 percentage points in ELA and 10 in math, while West High fell 10 points in ELA. SchoolDigger ranked Bostic 16th of 657 elementary schools, at the 98th percentile with five stars; its percentile rose from 92, while Robinson’s fell from 83 to 65 despite its ELA rate exceeding the state’s. Northeast Magnet also reported a 98% graduation rate, compared with 90% statewide. Schools serve different grade spans, so grade-specific results are especially useful when comparing options.
