As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is amazing! The science, law and art programs are designed to meet individual student needs and go beyond the standard curriculum. The camaraderie among students is terrific with very little fighting or bullying. The teachers are so willing to help a student succeed that they provide time at lunch, after school or at Saturday School. The administration and office staff is also top notch. They go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. I can't imagine a better school for my son to go to. There is a reason why it is ranked #3 in best schools in Kansas by U.S. News and World Report. We love NEM! Close Quote

Open Quote The school used to be good under Mr. Hudson but now after Mr. Alverez took over as principal everything went down hill. A fight under Mr. Hudson almost never occurred. Under Mr. Alverez there have already been several fights in only the first two months. On top of that students now have a much harder time to attend clubs. It is also impossible for a student to get help in a class because students are no longer allowed to talk to teachers at lunch without much prior approval. The worst part is that there never were student deaths under Mr. Hudson. So far under Mr. Alverez there was one and it has been rumored today that another student took their life.

In the end Northeast Magnet is no longer a premier school. It has turned into a jail where now rampant bullying has caused many problems and the death of at least one student. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
