Middle Schools in Liberal

Liberal has two middle schools serving grades 6–8: Eisenhower Middle School has 516 students, and Seymour Rogers Middle School has 472. Across the two schools, average proficiency was 20% in English language arts (ELA), 18% in math and 14% in science, compared with state results of 46%, 41% and 38%. The most important finding for families is that both schools are well below state proficiency, including the stronger-performing school, which trails the state by about 18 to 20 points across subjects.

Eisenhower stands out as the stronger of the two: it led in every subject, with 27% proficiency in ELA, 23% in math and 18% in science, versus 14%, 13% and 11% at Seymour Rogers. Recent score trends favor Eisenhower: from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, it gained 5 percentage points in ELA, 7 in math and 1 in science. At Seymour Rogers, ELA fell by 1 point, while math and science each changed by less than 1 point. Attendance is a comparatively positive measure at both schools: chronic absenteeism was 16% at Eisenhower and 17% at Seymour Rogers, below the state’s 18%. Eisenhower’s student–teacher ratio was 13, compared with 11.5 at Seymour Rogers; free/reduced-lunch rates were 82% and 91%, respectively. These context measures describe differences between the schools but do not explain their test results.
