Satanta Elementary serves prekindergarten through grade 5, and Satanta Junior-Senior High serves grades 6–12; together, the two schools enroll 242 students in this small community. The clearest shared concern is mathematics: the schools’ equal-weight average was 23% proficient in 2025–26, 18 percentage points below the state’s 41%, with elementary grade 5 especially low at 0% compared with 45% statewide.

The schools stand out in different subjects rather than one being strongest across the board. On the all-grades measures, elementary led in ELA, with 48% proficient versus 32% at the junior-senior high, and in science, with 38% versus 12%. The junior-senior high led in math, at 32% versus elementary’s 14%. Elementary ELA was 2 points above the state’s 46%, and its science result was less than 1 point above the state’s 38%; its math result was 27 points below the state. The junior-senior high was below the state in all three subjects—by 14 points in ELA, 9 in math and 26 in science. Grade-level results add important exceptions: elementary ELA was above the state in grades 4 and 5 but 17 points below in grade 3, while junior-senior high grade 8 math was 2 points above the state.

Recent trends are mixed: the area’s average shortfall versus the state narrowed by 1 point in ELA and 7 points in science from 2024–25 to 2025–26, but widened by 3 points in math. SchoolDigger’s statewide rank percentile rose for the junior-senior high, from 10 to 34 between 2023–24 and 2025–26, while elementary’s fell from 40 to 24. The junior-senior high also had a lower student-teacher ratio (8.6 versus 10.5); its free/reduced-lunch rate was 75%, compared with 65% at elementary. These figures describe different grade spans and school contexts and do not explain why results differ.
