Four schools in Hugoton Public Schools serve grades PK–12: Hugoton Elementary (PK–6), Hugoton Middle (7–8), Hugoton High (9–12), and Hugoton Learning Academy (7–12). Test scores are listed for the first three schools, but not the Academy. The most striking pattern is the science divide: Elementary and Middle are above the state, while High is well below it.
Hugoton Elementary leads reported All Grades ELA and science, with 50% and 65% proficient—4 and 27 points above the state. Recent results are improving on average in ELA and math, but not at every school. Across the three schools with scores, average ELA rose 5 points, to 42%, and average math rose 4 points, to 39%; both remain below state results. Middle gained 7 points in ELA and 8 in math, while High gained 8 and 9; Elementary’s math fell 6 points. Elementary and Middle averaged 58% in science, up 3 points, while the state result fell 3 points. SchoolDigger’s 2025–26 rankings put Middle at the 64th percentile, Elementary at the 48th, and High at the 30th; over three years, Elementary fell 18 percentile points, while High rose 14. School context also varies: traditional-school student-teacher ratios range from 12.2 at Middle to 13.8 at Elementary, and free/reduced-lunch rates range from 56% at High to 61% at Middle—descriptive figures that do not explain performance.
