Sublette

The three schools in Sublette serve 366 students across prekindergarten through grade 12: Sublette Elementary (PK–6), Sublette Middle (grades 7–8), and Sublette High (grades 9–12). Results vary by school and subject, but the clearest concern is Middle’s very low performance across subjects, especially in grade 8.

Elementary stands out in all-grades ELA, with 53% proficiency compared with 30% at High and 28% at Middle; it is 7 percentage points above the state rate of 46%. High leads all-grades math at 40%, just 1 point above Elementary and 15 points above Middle, and leads science at 42%, compared with 38% at Elementary and 5% at Middle. Middle is below the state in all three subjects, with its largest gap in science: 5% versus 38%. Grade 8 results reinforce the concern: Middle is 27 points below the state in ELA, 25 points below in math, and 34 points below in science. High’s profile is mixed: its science is above state, while its 30% ELA result is 16 points below. Elementary’s strong overall ELA also varies by grade; grade 5 math is 24%, 21 points below the state.

Recent results show the biggest downward shift in ELA: Elementary rose 2 percentage points from 2024–25 to 2025–26, while High fell 18 and Middle fell 10; the three-school average moved from 1 point above the state to 9 points below. Math changed less: the average gap widened from 4 points below state to 6 points below. SchoolDigger’s 2025–26 statewide rankings place High at the 56th percentile, Elementary at the 46th, and Middle at the 11th; High’s ranking rose 44 percentile points from 2023–24, while Middle’s fell 29. Attendance also differs: chronic absenteeism is 31% at Middle, 21% at High, and 15% at Elementary. Middle has the lowest student-teacher ratio (6.9) and the highest free/reduced-lunch rate (73%); these are observations, not explanations for test results. Small school cohorts, especially Middle’s 44 students, can make year-to-year results volatile.
