McCordsville Elementary School is a K–4 school in McCordsville, Indiana, a suburban community northeast of Indianapolis, with about 700 students, and is part of the Mt Vernon Community School Corp. The district is relatively strong, ranking 98th of 374 Indiana districts, but the school’s own 2025–2026 ranking is 473rd of 1,015 schools, down from 193rd in 2023–2024. That recent decline is a key consideration for families: the school still has real strengths, but its test-score profile has weakened after a peak two years ago.

The school’s clearest advantages are attendance and class size. Chronic absenteeism is 6.3%, well below the district’s 9.4% and the state’s 16.7%; among nearby schools, only Fortville Elementary School and Geist Elementary School are lower. Its 14.7 student–teacher ratio is the lowest in this comparison group. Math is the strongest core subject: all-grades math proficiency is 55.51%, above the district and Mt Comfort Elementary School but below Fortville Elementary School. This is not a school I would recommend. The principal is not involved and does not want to take the time to get to know the parents and children. Not caring towards students and families. Terrible upkeep on school grounds. Due to budget cuts the costs is passed to the parents instead of the school learning to operate under a budget. I would not recommend moving to this area. Schools in Fishers and Carmel have much better ratings. Close Quote
