Elkhart High School is a large public high school in Elkhart, Indiana, serving grades 9–12 with 3,073 students as part of Elkhart Community Schools, a district ranked 317 of 374 in Indiana (about the 15th percentile) with 1 star. In 2025–26, the school ranked 320 of 415 (23rd percentile, 1 star), and it has stayed at 1 star from 2020–21 through 2025–26. It is among the largest high schools in its comparison group, second only to Penn High School’s 3,687 students.

The school remains in the bottom quartile. In 2025–26, only 12% of students were proficient in SAT Math (state: 25.6%), 35.29% in SAT Evidence-based Reading and Writing (state: 51.9%), and 24.07% in Biology ILEARN. For comparison, Penn High School had 43.5% in SAT Math and 71.69% in reading/writing, Jimtown High School had 25.4% and 61.11%, Concord Community High School had 24.73% and 45.21%, Adams High School had 20.75% and 43.0%, and Mishawaka High School had 16.49% and 38.83%. Improvement is visible in attendance, graduation, and Biology, but SAT Math has stayed flat and very low, and test scores remain below state levels and most traditional peers. The school is not dramatically outperforming its district, and Adams High School shows a school can rank higher than its district context. Alternative schools such as Rise Up Academy at Eggleston, Cavemen Academy of Virtual Excellence, and Excel Center - Elkhart serve different populations and are not direct comparisons. Overall, the most urgent issues are low math proficiency, high chronic absenteeism, and broad low performance across many student groups, despite a graduation rate above the state average.
