Summary

Lorraine Elementary School in Stockbridge, GA, serves 571 students in Pre-K through 5th grade within the Rockdale County School District. The school has seen its statewide ranking shift significantly over the past decade, moving from a top-tier position (89th percentile in 2015-2016) to its current middle-of-the-pack standing (35th percentile in 2025-2026), a change that coincides with a rising percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch (now 73.2%).

Despite the overall ranking, Lorraine Elementary shows clear strengths in specific areas. Upper-grade math is a standout: 4th grade proficiency (37.5%) and 5th grade proficiency (38.1%) both exceed district averages, with 5th grade math finishing 13.6 points above the Henry County district average and beating nearby schools like Austin Road Elementary School. Science is another bright spot—5th graders posted a 39.3% proficiency rate, well above the district's 30.8%, and the school has consistently outperformed district science averages for several years. The school also ranks in the 62nd percentile statewide for African American students and the 56th percentile for special education students, indicating effective support for these groups. Chronic absenteeism (22.4%) is notably lower than the district average (28.6%) and better than all comparable Rockdale County schools, including Honey Creek Elementary School and Barksdale Elementary School.

Compared to nearby schools, Lorraine holds its own. Within Rockdale County, it outperforms Shoal Creek Elementary School and Sims Elementary School in overall ranking, and it significantly beats DeKalb County schools like Flat Rock Elementary School and Murphey Candler Elementary School across most subjects. Its per-student spending ($16,178) is lower than several peers that perform worse, suggesting efficient resource use. While the school faces challenges tied to rising poverty, its stable performance in upper grades and science, combined with strong attendance, points to effective school-level practices worth noting for parents.

Open Quote This an exceptional school to teach at! I love my job and the family-like atmosphere that we "both staff and students" have worked so hard to create! Close Quote

Open Quote We are in our 3rd year at Lorraine and have had the best experience. We have been lucky to have 3 great teachers so far. But each year I wonder if we will be so lucky as these teachers are so over worked and have to deal with so much. They need all the parent's support and the County's support to keep Lorraine such a great school! Close Quote
