Open Quote My child had a wonderful second grade year with Mrs. Nicole Smith. She is an exceptional teacher. I wish she could have moved up with my child. We will miss her. Close Quote

Open Quote The school lacks sound instructional leadership. The grading policy is inconsistent and needs work. The academic work is void of rigor. The AP has been there too long and is too close to staff members to reprimand them for lack of effective teaching. She definitely needs to be transferred. The school makes it optional for teachers to send homework. I see why this school is ranked in the bottom out of all the elementary schools in the county! They need good leaders who are not afraid to work the teachers and non renew their contracts if necessary! Close Quote

Open Quote Shoal Creek Elementary School is an amazing school where teachers and proffesionals truly care for our kids. I have 3 kids in the School and I am very pleased with the School. I had never had a problem with a bus leaving kids in the wrong place, in fact one time I addressed a little incident between my kid an another, and the school was right on top of it. Kids were called and they addressed it beautifully making it a learning experecience for the kids ( never had a nother problem again). Every time you visit the principal is involved in everything going on at the School. Teachers care for the children and stimulate them in their level. They will keep lines of communication open and you will be well informed of how your kid is doing. I have very smart kids, and they even have had meetings to find out how to make it even more challenging for one of my children. I was very impressed 14 people discussing every 2 or 3 months how he was doing and how they could make it even more challenging for him. - he loved the extra projects he had to do and learned so much from them- When a school takes that amount of time and effort to keep a child challenged you see they truly know the importance of education in their hearts and will stay commited to their tasks. The school encourages excellence in academics, good behavior and attendance. You can visit at any time and you see order everywhere. Media Specialists will motivate your children to read more and more to the point where your kids will love to read. Kids will enjoy Art, Music, PE and all the special classes as well. I think one of the keys for success in one child's life is the involvement of the mom and dad in their lives and education process. Everyone expects miracles from schools when the home is absent. There is no way our children will succeed if the parents are not there. I love Shoal Creek. The teachers love these children and work hard to make a positive impact in their lives. Close Quote

Open Quote This "school" is horrid. The emphasis is not on learning, but on fund-raising. Every week my child comes home with a flier about fund-raising, while her homework sheets are mysteriously absent. The principal is nothing but a pompous bureaucrat interested in nothing but covering his own hide. My neighbor's 5 year old daughter was dropped off at the wrong bus stop, and my neighbor informed me that no repercussions occurred and that this principal basically treated it like it's no big deal and that it's an everyday occurrence. If your child is in this school district, exercise your right to choose another school! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
