Summary

Pleasant Grove Elementary School in Stockbridge, GA, serves approximately 522 students in grades PK-5 as part of Henry County Schools, with 74% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch.

One of the most encouraging trends at Pleasant Grove is the remarkable growth students show as they move through the grades. While 3rd and 4th grade math proficiency lags behind district and state averages, 5th graders shine—41.1% were proficient in math (beating the district's 29.8% and nearly matching the state's 44.1%), and 44.5% were proficient in science, exceeding both district and state averages. This pattern held in prior years, suggesting the school adds significant value over time. The school also stands out among nearby schools in 5th grade: it outperforms Woodland Elementary School (19.5% math, 31% science) and Flippen Elementary School (18.7% math, 24.4% science) by wide margins, even though those schools have similar overall rankings. Chronic absenteeism has also improved dramatically, falling from 25.1% in 2022-2023 to 16.3% in 2025-2026—now better than both the district (19.6%) and state (17.7%) averages.

Pleasant Grove shows particular strength with African American students, ranking in the 56th percentile statewide for this subgroup—a 3-star rating that exceeds the school's overall performance. The school also uses resources efficiently: its per-student spending of $14,265 is lower than several nearby schools like Austin Road Elementary School ($16,699) and Stockbridge Elementary School ($16,165), yet it achieves comparable or better results. The main area needing attention is special education, where the school ranks in the bottom 15th percentile statewide. Overall, Pleasant Grove is on an upward trajectory—its ranking improved from the 30th to 36th percentile in recent years—and its consistent science scores and strong 5th-grade outcomes suggest effective teaching practices that could benefit all students.

Open Quote The principal and teachers expect and strive for excellence. They are completely dedicated to the children and ensuring that they learn the material and that they are able to communicate what was learned. I have also been impressed by watching the faculty and staff set the goal of becoming the first STEM certified elementary school in the county and reaching that goal. Close Quote
