Summary

Central High School in Carrollton, GA, serves approximately 1,338 students in grades 9-12 as part of the Carroll County school district. The school is a solid performer with a 3-star rating, though its state ranking slipped from 131st to 214th this year—a drop that coincides with a sharp decline in Algebra I proficiency and may reflect broader assessment changes.

Central’s standout strength is its graduation rate of 97.8%, which beats the state average (87.2%) by more than 10 points and nearly matches the district’s 97.7%. This rate also exceeds nearby Carrollton High School (92.8%) and Alexander High School (93.7%). The school also shines in Biology, where 45.7% of students scored proficient—above the district (40.5%) and close to the state (47.2%). Chronic absenteeism has improved dramatically, falling from 31.0% in 2021-2022 to 16.3% now, which is below the state average (17.7%) and better than nearby Mt. Zion High School (26.2%) and Temple High School (23.6%).

However, U.S. History remains a persistent challenge, with only 33% proficient—below the district (37.1%) and state (38.5%)—and a gap of nearly 13 points compared to Biology. Algebra I proficiency has been volatile, dropping from 59.3% in 2023-2024 to 40.3% now, though it still edges out the district average (42%). Central spends $11,229 per student, less than most nearby schools, yet achieves competitive results—suggesting efficiency, though additional investment could help address subgroup performance gaps. The school’s strong attendance and graduation outcomes make it a reliable choice for families prioritizing student persistence, even as test scores in some subjects warrant monitoring.

Open Quote Central Carroll High offers premier educational opportunities to ALL students. Teachers work year round to prepare meaningful and engaging activities in the classroom (above average). The positive relationships between Teachers and Students set our school apart from others. Our students are vessels of greatness: performing arts (phenomenal), on the courts and fields (Championship Winners) as well as extensive club offerings and participation (First Place). The JROTC program is the “Best of the Blue (Highest Honor awarded) and we excel at operationalizing vertical connections with our feeder schools. Most importantly, our connections are not bound by the walls of our schools. CHS staff and students make year round investments into our community. #OneFamily Close Quote
