Summary

Alexander High School in Douglasville, GA, serves approximately 1,830 students in grades 9-12 within the Douglas County School District, holding a 3-star rating and ranking 208th out of 455 Georgia high schools.

Alexander stands out most for its student persistence. With a 93.7% graduation rate and a 1.6% dropout rate, the school consistently outperforms both district and state averages—a trend that has held for five straight years. This is especially notable given that the school's academic proficiency rankings sit in the middle of the pack statewide. The school's clearest academic strength is U.S. History, where it has beaten the state average for four consecutive years (39.8% proficient in 2025-2026 vs. 38.5% statewide). It also shows strong results for its African American students, who rank in the 68th percentile statewide—well above the school's overall 54th percentile. In contrast, Biology scores lag the state by roughly 5-8 percentage points, though they remain competitive with most nearby schools. Algebra I scores have improved dramatically, jumping from 15.4% proficiency in 2023-2024 to 41.9% in 2025-2026, nearly matching the state average.

Compared to its Douglas County peers, Alexander is a solid mid-tier performer. It ranks second in the district behind Douglas County High School (163rd), but ahead of New Manchester High School (194th), Chapel Hill High School (251st), and Lithia Springs Comprehensive High School (373rd). Alexander's chronic absenteeism rate of 22.7% is slightly above the state average (17.7%) but far better than several nearby schools—Lithia Springs sits at 48.8% and Langston Hughes High School at 48.4%. The school also serves a lower-poverty population (52.3% free/reduced lunch) than most district peers, and spends about $12,078 per student—less than nearby Fulton County schools while achieving comparable outcomes. While the school has slipped from its 4-star peak in 2018-2019, its strong graduation rates and recent Algebra I gains suggest a positive trajectory.
