Summary

Dolan School is a middle school in Stamford, CT, serving 577 students in grades 6–8 as part of the Stamford School District. The school currently ranks in the 24th percentile statewide, placing it above the district average but well below the Connecticut state average, and it has experienced a steady decade-long decline from the 47th percentile in 2015–2016. Like other Stamford middle schools, Dolan serves a high-poverty population, with roughly 59% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.

Academic proficiency rates are consistently low across all subjects. In ELA, about 30% of Dolan students are proficient, compared to roughly 51% statewide. Math is a particular concern, with only about 1 in 5 students proficient, versus roughly 2 in 5 students statewide. Science proficiency (30%) is also about 20 points below the state average. These gaps are starkly visible when compared to nearby schools. Middlesex Middle School in Darien, just 1.4 miles away, posts ELA and math proficiency rates around 80%, and Eastern Middle School in Greenwich shows similar results. Even within the same district, Scofield Middle School outperforms Dolan by roughly 15–20 points in both ELA and math.

Some student subgroups are struggling more than others. Female students at Dolan rank in the 6th percentile statewide, down from the 18th percentile just two years earlier, while Hispanic students dropped from the 46th to the 10th percentile over the same period. Low-income students also rank in the bottom quartile. There is one genuine bright spot: chronic absenteeism has improved dramatically, falling from 26.7% to 18.7% over four years, and is now below the Stamford district average. Earlier grade-level successes in ELA and science have not been sustained, but this attendance improvement suggests the school has internal strengths to build on as it works to address its most urgent challenges in math and subgroup outcomes.

Open Quote I really dont like dolan..well i hate dolan,we cant have any fun.. the principal is really strict and she dont like anybody to have fun.I think our school should have a school talent show such as singing, dancing, rapping, and many other talents. With this, students would have a chance to express themselves. This will also help them with their personal lifes and no matter whats going on at home, they can always look forward to what they wanna do in school. Another problem is with lunch. We cant even sit with our friends we have to sit by homeroom. Many of other students would agree with me if i had showed them this. Our school should also have dress up days at least every month or something. This school is way too strict! We (kids) would wanna have some fun at school. Alot of kids would LOVE going to dolan...My other friends, when they ask me what school i go to now,i tell them dolan and they just say mhm mhm mhm. i think dolan is veerrryyy BORING! please pleasseee can yall just switch it up a little bit please!!! thats all im asking...and its sad that alot of kids dont have a voice like i do.. im speaking for all of us soo please! i want this year to be the best year of our lifes since its the last year!
