Summary

Scofield Middle School is a grades 6–8 middle school in Stamford, CT, serving 622 students and standing out as the highest-performing public middle school in the Stamford School District. While the district itself ranks in the bottom fifth of Connecticut districts, Scofield earns a 3-star SchoolDigger rating and ranks at the 51st percentile statewide (126th of 258 middle schools). The other Stamford middle schools — Turn of River School, Dolan School, Cloonan School, and Rippowam Middle School — all rank in the bottom quarter of the state, making Scofield a clear academic outlier within its own district.

In English language arts, Scofield students score near the state average and well above the Stamford district average. Science is the school's strongest subject, with 58.1% of 8th graders proficient on the NGSS science test, compared to 40.2% districtwide and 50.9% statewide. Mathematics is the clearest area for improvement: scores beat district averages but trail the state at every grade level, and 8th grade math proficiency has declined steadily from 42.6% in 2023–24 to 31.1% in 2025–26. When compared to affluent nearby schools like Saxe Middle School, Eastern Middle School, and Middlesex Middle School, Scofield is mid-pack; however, it outperforms its Stamford peers by wide margins — for example, 51.1% of Scofield 6th graders were proficient in ELA versus 28.9% at the next-highest Stamford middle school.

Scofield's attendance is a significant asset. Chronic absenteeism runs at 10.4%, roughly half the Stamford district rate of 19.8% and far below Turn of River School's 26.8%. Just under half of Scofield students (49.2%) qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, a lower share than other Stamford middle schools but much higher than schools in Greenwich and Darien. The school also shows notable strengths with Hispanic students (60th percentile statewide) and special education students (74th percentile). While Scofield's overall ranking has slipped somewhat over the past decade, the latest year shows a rebound, and for Stamford families, it is clearly the district's strongest middle school choice.

Open Quote Horrible school mishandles bullying and blames it on the victim and lets the bully get away! Bully stole my pencil case I told the teacher she did nothing! Tried grabbing it back and then the teacher grabbed me and kicked me out of the class instead of the bully! She lied about saying i pushed her when in reality she pushed me! Our homeroom always went last at lunch and they never rotate! If you mistype your lunch number instantly back of the line! Couldn't get your parents to sign a paper? Publicly shamed! Forgot an assignment instant lunch detention! 3 floors of stairs and my food almost fell! No one cared! TVs in lunchroom but never used! Kid punched me in open house and the principal did nothing! They left us alone in a little room and kids bullied me and there were witnesses! What a shame! Glad the old principal is gone but nothing much has changed. Teachers are NOT friendly. They wanted to call the cops on me for something I did not do! Staff get away with child abuse and lies! Expect to be emotionally and physically abused! The tech class I signed up for doesn't teach you anything! No learning computer programming at all just playing a 2d game! Might as well call it arcade club! I thought this school was good, oh I was so wrong thinking that! Also the staff at Scofield go to your elementary school and get information about you and use it against you! They only focus on negative things on you not positive! Do not expect a clean slate or anything good about you being noticed! Teachers don't care about the students, and bullying is a huge problem! No emotional support at all! They defend bullies, and punish victims! Also the teachers are so strict and they make the lessons very boring. I have been to other schools where the teachers really care about engaging the students and making the lesson fun and educational! When parents are invited to the school they separate you from your parents so you cannot talk negatively about school, and so they can lie to your parents! This school is like a prison and no one listens to the students, only the bullies and there is no psychologist to interview you and find out what really happened! Also this school is very far for most kids so you have to get up extra earlier and you will arrive home later than a regular local school! The bus stops are really far from most kids homes, so your parents have to drive you to the bus stop or you have to walk a mile or more! Please do not send your kids to this school trust me!
