Summary

Gardenhill Elementary is a highly-regarded K-5 public school serving 633 students in La Mirada, part of the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified district, and it stands out as a consistent top performer in the area, ranking in the 82nd percentile statewide.

The school excels academically, with students scoring significantly higher in math, English, and science than both the district and state averages. What's particularly impressive is how effectively the school supports all its students, achieving exceptional results for those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and maintaining one of the lowest chronic absenteeism rates in the region at 9.7%. This performance is even more notable because Gardenhill achieves these outstanding results while spending less per student than many neighboring schools like Foster Road Elementary or John Foster Dulles Elementary.

When compared to nearby schools, Gardenhill is the clear leader within its own district and competes favorably with schools in higher-ranking districts like East Whittier City Elementary. For example, it outperforms Scott Avenue Elementary in core subjects. While the school's science scores and support for multi-racial students are areas to watch, its overall record of delivering excellent, equitable education makes it a standout choice for families.

Open Quote Garden Hill is a fantastic school with excellent teachers. My child is receiving a top quality education and always score advanced on the state test. I truly think their as good as any private school. They have great after school events like the Fall Festival and Summer Jam. I would ignore the other disgruntled posting. Close Quote

Open Quote My Child is currently a new student at Garden hill. At the beginning of the year he was an a combination class K-1. It was a disaster. Teacher could not handle a lot of students and teaches both levels at the same time. Our kids spent more of the time coloring than getting real class instruction. After two month the administration decided to separate the class. Now we have a new teacher who is temporal until January when the real teacher is going to show up because is in medical leave. COULD YOU IMAGINE! OUR CHILDREN DEALING WITH THREE DIFFERENT TEACHERS IN LEST THAN A YEAR! WHILE THE OTHES KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS ARE NOT EXPERIENCE THE SAME. In addition to it, us, the parents consider that our children are not being challenged enough and have disciplinary issues in class. We were told that our class was a special class because most of the students knows kindergarden curriculum, however the school do not accommodate our children, BUT enroll children that are younger than the age required to enrolled kindergarden. Our child have learn more from the Preschool program than kinder. The school is supposed to be A DISTINGUISHED school but under WHAT STANDARD? the schools now days are more DAY CARES THAN EDUCATION CENTER. Close Quote
