Summary:

East Whittier City Elementary includes 13 schools in the East Whittier area: 10 elementary schools serving kindergarten through grade 5 and three middle schools serving grades 6–8. In 2025–26, elementary school averages were above state results in ELA and math, but barely above the state in science; all three middle schools exceeded state results in every subject. The most important finding is that elementary results vary much more from school to school, while middle-school results are consistently above state levels.

Murphy Ranch Elementary stands out among elementary schools, leading in ELA at 76% and science at 52%, and nearly tying Ocean View Elementary, the math leader, at about 69%. Laurel Elementary is the clearest low outlier, with the lowest elementary ELA and math results, at 36% and 34%; La Colima Elementary has the lowest elementary science result, 24%. Among middle schools, Granada Middle leads in all three subjects, while East Whittier Middle is lowest in each, though still above state results. Granada’s science score is only about 1 percentage point above Hillview Middle.

Recent changes were mixed: elementary averages fell by about 1 point in ELA and 2 in math, with science essentially unchanged; middle-school averages rose by about 1, 2, and 4 points, respectively. Hillview improved across all subjects, gaining 6 points in ELA, 8 in math, and 12 in science; its SchoolDigger percentile rose from 73 to 78. School context does not form a simple pattern: Murphy Ranch has a student-teacher ratio of 28.2 and 41% free/reduced lunch eligible in 2024–25, while high-performing Leffingwell Elementary has a ratio of 24.4 and 53% eligible. Evergreen Elementary has 89% eligible, alongside a strong ELA increase but a math decline.
