Summary:
The 10 high schools in the William S. Hart Union High district range from 224 to 2,317 students; most serve grades 9–12, while Learning Post serves grades 7–12. Their 2025–2026 average results were above state averages in English language arts (ELA), math and science: 71% versus 49% in ELA, 44% versus 38% in math, and 53% versus 36% in science. But those averages hide the most important finding: the gap between the highest- and lowest-scoring schools was 74 points in ELA, 82 in math and 71 in science.
Academy of the Canyons led all three subjects, with 95% in ELA and 82% each in math and science; it also reported 100% graduation and 0% chronic absenteeism. Among larger schools, West Ranch High stood out with 87% in ELA, 71% in science and 60% in math. At the other end, Bowman (Jereann) High had the lowest results—21% in ELA, 0% in math and 11% in science—and an 86% graduation rate. SchoolDigger ranked Academy 13th and Bowman 1,774th among 2,137 schools statewide. Learning Post Academy (Alternative) shows why subject-specific comparisons matter: its 57% ELA result was above the 49% state average, while its math result was 25%.
Over two years, the schools’ average ELA result slipped by 1 point, while math rose 3 points and science rose 5; the gap with the state narrowed by 1 point in ELA and widened by 2 points in both math and science. Individual gains varied: Canyon High improved 18 points in math, while William S. Hart High gained 16 points in science. For context, 2024–2025 free/reduced lunch eligibility ranged from 13% at West Ranch to 72% at Bowman; student-teacher ratios ranged from 11 at Bowman to 29.3 at Academy. These figures describe different school contexts, not causes of results, and Learning Post’s different grade span can complicate all-grades comparisons.
