Summary

Academy of the Canyons is a consistently top-ranked high school serving grades 9-12 for about 385 students within the high-performing William S. Hart Union High district in Santa Clarita.

The school stands out for its exceptional academic results, with over 96% of students proficient in English and over 77% proficient in math, which are significantly higher than other strong local schools like West Ranch High and Valencia High. It also boasts a remarkably low chronic absenteeism rate of just 1.6%, far below the district average, and maintains a near-perfect graduation rate. This excellence is consistent across all student groups, with each subgroup ranking in the top 1% of schools statewide.

Interestingly, Academy of the Canyons achieves these outstanding outcomes while being much smaller than other district high schools and operating with a higher student-teacher ratio and lower per-student spending. Its sustained top-tier performance for over a decade suggests a highly effective school model and culture, making it the clear academic leader even within its high-achieving district.

Open Quote Past student- I went here from my sophomore year till I graduated. I never was into school spirit, however, this school won my heart. It challenged me to be my best and I came out of it more prepared for life than the average high schooler. I learned so much from the teachers, whom of which love what they do and love to make it more than just your usual high school experience. I will forever miss this school. I haven't been able to find any other teachers or professors quite like the ones I found in high school. Close Quote

Open Quote I absolutely love it at AOC! The staff is extremely helpful and really challenge the students to reach their full potential. I started going to Academy of the Canyons for my sophomore year and the students there were very accepting and welcoming. Overall, the student body is much more driven and mature than the average public high school. Close Quote
