Summary:

Castaic, California, has six schools: three elementary schools serving kindergarten through sixth grade, a middle school, a high school and an alternative school serving a broad grade span. Five schools have 2025–26 test results, while Santa Clarita Valley International’s latest results are from 2024–25. The clearest concern is Live Oak Elementary: in 2025–26, its All Grades proficiency was 41% in English language arts (ELA), 36% in math and 21% in science, below California by 8, 3 and 15 percentage points, respectively.

The highest results come from different schools by subject. Castaic High led the five-school comparison in ELA at 70% and science at 56%, while Castaic Elementary led in math at 58%. Those leaders were 29 points ahead of the lowest school in ELA, 36 points ahead in science and 23 points ahead in math. Among elementary schools, Castaic Elementary led in ELA and math, while Northlake Hills Elementary led in science at 48%. Castaic Middle also stood out in ELA (63%) and science (46%), but its math result (38%) was just below the state’s 38%.

Across the same five schools, average proficiency remained above California in all three subjects, but the advantage narrowed from 2024–25 to 2025–26: from 11 to 10 percentage points in ELA, 7 to 6 in math and 7 to 6 in science. SchoolDigger’s statewide ranking percentile for Live Oak fell from 59 in 2023–24 to 45 in 2025–26, while Northlake rose from 70 to 78 and Castaic Elementary from 75 to 79. Reported free/reduced lunch eligible shares for 2024–25 ranged from 22% at Castaic High to 59% at Northlake; these are context, not an explanation for test results. Among the elementary schools, Castaic Elementary had the highest student-teacher ratio at 29.7, yet led in math. Santa Clarita Valley International had mixed 2024–25 results, including ELA and math below its state comparisons but science above.
