Elementary Schools in Centralia Elementary

The eight elementary schools in Centralia Elementary serve K–6, with enrollments ranging from 431 to 627. In 2025–2026, their unweighted average proficiency rates were 55% in ELA, 55% in math and 47% in science, compared with California rates of 49%, 38% and 36%. Those averages were slightly below the district’s rates in all three subjects, and they mask very large differences among schools. The most important finding is that this is a sharply uneven group, not a uniformly high- or low-performing set of schools.

Los Coyotes Elementary led all three subjects, with 89% proficient in ELA, 87% in math and 80% in science; it outpaced runner-up Buena Terra Elementary by 16, 8 and 15 percentage points, respectively. At the other end, Centralia Elementary had the lowest results: 29% in ELA, 31% in math and 28% in science. The gap between the highest and lowest schools was 60 points in ELA, 57 in math and 51 in science. Los Coyotes was also well above the other seven schools’ average in each subject, while Centralia was below it.

Recent results were mixed: the eight-school mean fell 1 point in ELA from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, while rising 2 points in math and 1 in science. Individual patterns differed—for example, Centralia’s ELA and math results fell while its science result rose. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile rankings also diverged: Los Coyotes stayed at the 99th percentile, while Centralia fell from the 46th to the 29th; Glen H. Dysinger Senior Elementary rose from the 65th to the 71st. As context, free/reduced lunch eligible figures for school year 2024–2025 ranged from 38% at Los Coyotes to 96% at Danbrook Elementary; these figures do not explain achievement differences. Los Coyotes had a 27.0 student-teacher ratio and 0% chronic absenteeism, compared with Centralia’s 19% absenteeism rate, above the district’s 10%.
