Summary:

Tempe has 44 listed schools: 22 elementary, six middle, 15 high and one alternative, serving students from elementary through high school. The latest AASA results are for 2025–26, and the reported scores vary sharply between schools. Among 5th graders, ELA proficiency ranges from 93% at Ward Traditional Academy to 18% at Flora Thew Elementary School; math ranges from 93% at Ward to 23% at Joseph P. Spracale Elementary School. The most important finding for families is that results can differ dramatically even among schools serving the same grade.

Several schools stand well above state results, while others are far below. Arredondo Elementary School reports 89% All Grades ELA and 81% math, versus 41% and 33% statewide; Tempe Preparatory Academy leads the reported 11th-grade results, with 76% ELA and 64% math versus 38% and 31%. Ward also reports 92% 5th-grade science proficiency, compared with 34% statewide, and McKemy Academy of International Studies reaches 69% in 8th-grade math versus 30% statewide. At the lower end, Geneva Epps Mosley Middle School has 16% All Grades ELA and 4% math, compared with state rates of 41% and 33%; Tempe High School is also below state in 11th-grade ELA, math and science.

SchoolDigger statewide ranking percentiles show mixed changes from 2023–24 to 2025–26: Arredondo rose from the 43rd to the 99th percentile, while Fuller Elementary School fell from the 66th to the 45th. Enrollment or student–teacher ratio alone does not explain results: Arredondo and Wood School each enroll 470 students, yet their All Grades results differ by 50 points in ELA and 52 in math; their ratios are 16.1 and 14.1 students per teacher. Graduation is another distinction: Corona Del Sol High School reports a 96% graduation rate, while Student Choice High School reports 35%. Scores are available for only some school-grade-subject combinations, and free/reduced-lunch information is blank.
