Tempe Union High School District

Tempe Union High School District includes seven high schools serving grades 9–12 in the Tempe area. Across the schools, average proficiency is above Arizona’s average in ELA, math, and science, but school results vary widely: the gap between the highest- and lowest-scoring schools is 45 points in both ELA and math, the clearest reminder that district averages do not describe every school.

Desert Vista High School leads in all three subjects, with 70% proficient in 2025–26 ELA and 63% in math, and 46% in 2024–25 science. By comparison, Tempe High School is lowest in all three: 25% in ELA, 18% in math, and 13% in science. Corona Del Sol High School is second in ELA and math, at 65% and 61%; its 96% graduation rate is also the highest reported. Overall, the six-school ELA and math averages are 46% and 40%, compared with state averages of 41% and 33%; the seven-school science average is 27%, versus 19% statewide.

SchoolDigger statewide percentile rankings show modest overall improvement, but not a consistent upward trend: the six schools’ average moved from about 60 in 2023–24 to 57 in 2024–25 and 61 in 2025–26. McClintock High School gained 10 percentile points, while Marcos De Niza High School fell 10. Subject results can also point to different strengths: Mountain Pointe High School and Marcos De Niza were below state averages in ELA and math but above them in science. Size and student–teacher ratios do not form a simple pattern: Desert Vista, the largest school at 2,761 students, leads in test results, while Tempe High has 1,431 students and a ratio of 18.2. Graduation rates range from 81% at Marcos De Niza to 96% at Corona Del Sol; TAPBI’s results are from a different AASA year than the other schools.
