Summary

West Valley High School is a traditional public school serving grades 9–12 and 836 students in the Spokane Valley area as part of the West Valley School District (Spokane). The school’s strongest feature is student completion: its 2024–25 graduation rate was 96.4%, matching the district and exceeding Washington’s 82.6% rate, while its dropout rate was just 1.5%. These results were considerably better than nearby Spokane Valley High School and Dishman Hills High School.

English Language Arts is West Valley’s clearest academic strength. In 2025–26, 59.51% of students were proficient, above both the district’s 48.29% and the state’s 52.81%. West Valley also outperformed both nearby traditional high schools in ELA, math, and science. However, mathematics is the largest concern: only 28.22% of students were proficient, compared with 40.38% districtwide and 43.11% statewide. Science proficiency was 36.42%, below district and state results, and has fallen from 51.56% in 2023–24. In practical terms, the school appears much stronger in literacy and graduation support than in math and science achievement.

West Valley’s statewide ranking improved from the 30th percentile in 2024–25 to the 43rd percentile in 2025–26, an encouraging recent rebound, though it remains well below the 95th-percentile ranking reached in 2016–17. Its current results are stronger than those of the nearby comprehensive schools, but comparisons with specialized programs require caution. For example, Spokane Valley Technical has a much smaller enrollment and a different technical-school mission, while On Track Academy serves an alternative-school population. Overall, West Valley offers very strong graduation outcomes and comparatively strong ELA performance, with sustained improvement in math and science as its main priority.
