Summary

South Kitsap High School is a large public school in Port Orchard, serving grades 9–12 and 2,448 students in the South Kitsap School District on the Kitsap Peninsula. Its size and broad student population make it less directly comparable to nearby small or specialized schools. The school ranks 147th of 396 Washington high schools, placing it in the 63rd percentile, and has improved substantially from the 48th percentile in 2021–2022 and 2022–2023.

South Kitsap’s strongest outcomes are graduation and English Language Arts. The 2024–2025 graduation rate was 90.7%, above both the district’s 84.7% and Washington’s 82.6%, while the dropout rate was 6.1%, below the state rate. In 2025–2026, ELA proficiency reached 70.28%, well above the district’s 54.65% and the state’s 52.81%. The school also shows strong effectiveness for English learners, Hispanic students, military-connected students, and students from low-income households. Its graduation rate is higher than Bremerton High School and its ELA performance is stronger than Klahowya Secondary.

Math is the clearest concern. Only 32.62% of students were proficient in math in 2025–2026, compared with 43.11% statewide, and science proficiency was 44.8%, below the state’s 50.95%. These results trail Bainbridge High School, Olympic High School, and generally Klahowya Secondary, though comparisons with Bainbridge should consider its much lower economic-need rate. Special education outcomes also remain uneven, and the dropout rate rose from 4.8% the previous year. Overall, South Kitsap offers a solid graduation and literacy foundation, with math, science, and consistent support for students receiving special education services as the most important areas to watch.

Open Quote You will get out what you want to get out of any school, and both my kids chose AP classes at SKHS and finished with SAT scores much higher than average. Both were admitted to top universities and are excelling. Close Quote

Open Quote Couldn't even compete in math. That's very SAD and yet our taxes keep going up to support non functioning students and Teachers, And 3 district administrators Here compared to one for Seattle which is larger. Whats wrong with this picture. State school Superintendent isn't doing the Job. Kids cant even read Mcguffy's reader books are to difficult to read at the then 4th grade level book. Close Quote

Open Quote This is to comment on the statement about students having to stand. I work in this building. There are no students having to stand due to being crowded. I also attended this school as a student when the population was at its height and there was room for everyone. Great School! Close Quote

Open Quote My sister-in-law's geometry class is so crowded that two students have to stand each day during class because there are not enough chairs. Close Quote
