South Kitsap School District serves the South Kitsap area with 16 schools spanning kindergarten through grade 12, including 10 elementary schools, three middle schools, two high schools, and one alternative K–12 school. The district enrolls approximately 9,270 students and ranks 77th among Washington’s 238 districts, placing it in the 68th percentile. Overall performance varies considerably by campus, with especially strong elementary and middle schools alongside notable challenges in secondary mathematics and at Discovery.

Among elementary schools, Mullenix Ridge Elementary School is the standout, leading the district in math proficiency at 71.04% and science at 80.56%, while maintaining a statewide ranking in the top fifth. Olalla Elementary School has the highest recent elementary ranking, at the 85th percentile, and also posts strong math and science results. South Colby Elementary School performs above district and state comparisons in all three subjects, while Sunnyslope Elementary School has the district’s highest elementary ELA rate and a strong upward ranking trend. At the middle-school level, John Sedgwick Middle School and Cedar Heights Middle School are strong four-star performers, whereas Marcus Whitman Middle School trails substantially in ELA, math, and science.

South Kitsap High School offers the strongest traditional high-school outcome profile, with a 90.7% graduation rate, strong ELA performance, and a dropout rate below district and state levels; however, math remains a concern. Explorer Academy, an alternative school, reports an 85.0% graduation rate but weaker math results and a higher student-teacher ratio.
